Challenge "The SZ42 Challenge — Part 11"

  By: admin on Jan. 30, 2021, 3:48 p.m.

The Lorenz SZ42, codenamed Tunny, was a German teleprinter encryption device used during WW2. This is the eleventh challenge in a series of 13 level-2 challenges with the SZ42. In this "key breaking" challenge you are provided with one ciphertext and the corresponding plaintext. Can you find the wheel patterns?

Interesting fact.
I'm restored patterns for all wheels for practical purposes, there were six slightly different patterns for the Mu61 wheel. These patterns are all correct, this has been verified by decrypting.
Of course this is due to the influence of the motor limitation. It turns out that using motor limitations makes wheel-breaking more difficult, but reduces (slightly?) the keyspace.
