MTC3 participant Julia Bernotat has found a (probably correcct) solution to this challenge. Details are given (in German) in this article: http://scienceblogs.de/klausis-krypto-kolumne/2016/01/11/top-25-krypto-raetsel-wahrscheinlich-geloest-teil-1/

Hello forum members,

We are awarded no points for this type of solution, unless someone has a very different solution or new ideas.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi,

I don't know if this is helpful, but a common german first name in 1808 was Caspar (ABCDBE.). The only author I could find was "Franz Xaver von Caspar (*1772/1773 †1833)" (Caspar as a last name) on Wikipedia, but he had nothing to do with cryptography.
Maybe someone can find a better author with the name.
